Heraklion

Heraklion is the capital of Crete and the largest city on the island. The city combines a rich history with vibrant urban life — colourful markets, excellent restaurants and diverse nightlife.

Heraklion is an excellent starting point for visiting the most famous archaeological sites of Crete, especially the magnificent Minoan Palace of Knossos. The city's Archaeological Museum is one of the best in Greece.

The Venetian harbour and old town offer a special atmosphere with narrow alleys, cafés and excellent restaurants. Heraklion is also a convenient base for trips across the island.
